MANDATE OF UCSCU

UCSCU derives its mandate from the registered by-laws. The overall purpose of UCSCU is to foster the organization and development of Savings and Credit Cooperatives in Uganda and to improve their internal operations. Specifically, the Union is mandated to:

  •  Promote SACCOs in order to realize greater participation in personal thrift, money management and the prudent use of credit.

  •  Promote SACCOs education and training programs in the proper methods, procedures and principles of safe and sound operations.

  •  Promote public relations activities in order to inform, influence and broaden community awareness and public understanding of the merits of SACCOS. This is to be achieved through specialized SACCOs events and stakeholder collaboration.

  •  Advocating for an enabling SACCO legislation.

  •  Develop competitive products for the members.

  •  Provide an international link with other world bodies having similar objects.

  •  Conduct research and disseminate the findings to the members.

  •  Become a member of any national, regional and /or international cooperative organization whose objects are in whole or in part similar to those of the union.

  •  Do all such acts and things permissible under the Cooperative Act, Regulations and By-laws for the attainment of its UCSCU.
